“When you’re young, life stretches out in front of you”

The Fortunate Ones is a book about Brooke Davenport who is cabana girl for a country club in Austin. Brooke (like many of the other girls) is infatuated with the sexy James Ashwood, though she hides it well. James is a techie businessman who looks to using his products to help those less fortunate. Brooke does a great job at admiring James from afar until he asks her to have a drink one night at the bar at the club.

Brooke and James know they’re drawn to each other but both of them have different futures in mind. Their differences in a 5 year plan keeps holding Brooke back, confusing herself on what she really wants out of life, now that James has her questioning everything. I give it 4 stars because while I loved Brooke and her sass, her decisions/ emotions were looping in circles which I didn’t enjoy too much. She was a little bit of a roller coaster

Other than that it has a good plot and storyline! Brooke does develop more, though you don’t learn much about James except an ex- girlfriend. But I did enjoy this book, it was a insta-love romance but also had a slow burn aspect to it at the same time so it gives some angst, which made it really interesting. TFO is funny and romantic, I would recommend it!

Blurb:

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

“Come have a seat.”

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild–but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow–he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?

They’re used to getting what they want.

  1. Yeah I see what you mean. I enjoyed the humor etc. but both characters drove me a little nuts. Overall I liked Brooke, I just would change some things. I liked it but definitely not as much as R.S Grey’s other books! I’m really looking forward to her new release😍

  2. I’m glad you liked this one. TFO was a let-down for me unfortunately. :/ I had a really hard time finishing it and I thought about DNF-ing it a few times. I just couldn’t deal with Brooke or James. 😀
